Amelie / Open sequence
The opening sequence of Amelie is approximately 10 minutes, it gives the viewer an insight of Amelie's childhood. We begin to see a young girl doing things that would be normally associated with childhood. Eg- Putting your finger around the edge of a wine glass, sticking strawberries on each finger and eating them, playing with dominos etc. This conveys the simplicity of Amelies character and how she is a normal girl. We see more of Amelies character; Her only friend was a goldfish, she had a wide imagination as she saw animals in clouds and was extremely bubbly and is the sort of girl that could change something boring, into something almost magical. The voice over informs us more about her childhood and what happened to her, we discover that her mother had died and her relationship with her father was not great at all- he treated her as if she was a patient. From just the opening sequence, we already know so much about Amelie and her lifestyle however this develops into her adulthood.
